Keyboard shortcuts

The full shortcut profile of NeoMath and NeoChem, the Ctrl+E, Ctrl+D, Ctrl+B and Ctrl+K chords and how to customize them in atalhos.json.

NeoMath consults a shortcut profile instead of fixed keys. The default profile ships with the app and can be overridden by a file of your own.

Principles#

  1. Every action has a stable identifier (inserir:fracao, matriz-coluna+…).
  2. A shortcut is a sequence of one or more keys. The first always carries Ctrl; the following keys (chord) need no modifier.
  3. Alt and Ctrl+Alt are never used: on ABNT2 keyboards that combination is AltGr and produces characters.
  4. Keys without Ctrl are never captured; typing always inserts the character.
  5. New actions live under three prefixes: Ctrl+E templates, Ctrl+D matrix and Ctrl+B selection. The second key is the initial of what you want.

General shortcuts also work with focus outside the editor (search field, panels); equation editing ones only work in the editor.

Esc or any key that does not complete the chord cancels it. While a chord is pending, the status bar says so.

NeoChem#

Chemistry shortcuts use the Ctrl+K chord:

Customize#

The user file is atalhos.json (atalhos_quimica.json in NeoChem), in the data folder:

The shortcut help window writes a complete template if the file does not exist yet.

  • The value is a combination or a list of them. An empty list turns the action off.
  • A missing action keeps the default.
  • Keys of a chord are separated by a space: Ctrl+E P.
  • Accepted modifiers: Ctrl and Shift. The key is a single character (F, 9, [, =).
  • An invalid combination, unknown action or conflict is ignored; warnings show in the shortcut help window.
  • The file is read once per app run.
